"Packs 4 Backs"
The Flagler County Education Foundation and the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates have teamed up to provide free backpacks loaded with school supplies for students in Flagler County. Each year we hope to increase our backpack order to ensure children in our county do not go without basic supplies.
Our goal is to raise funds and partner with individuals, businesses, and private foundations in order to purchase backpacks and supplies. By providing low-income students backpacks filled with age appropriate classroom supplies, the campaign supports the academic success of an ever-growing population of students in need. Demand for assistance continues to increase, and now based on income levels, 52 percent of school age children in Flagler County qualify for free and reduced price lunches.
The Flagler County School District will identify students in need and submit a per-school count to purchase backpacks and supplies. (Individuals in need are advised to contact their school Guidance Department to be placed on this list, we don't decide who receives supplies, our schools do.)
"Packs 4 Backs" relies on enthusiastic volunteers to stuff backs, deliver and then distribute to our schools. The smiles and appreciation from the recipients and their caregivers during pick-up make all the hard work worthwhile. It's critical for Flagler County to support our educational system given its vital role in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. Your support could make a huge difference for the children in our community.
Last year we purchased 830 backpacks and the week of August 17th, 2009 delivered to our schools. We couldn't have done this without the following support from:
