"Take Stock in Children" is a state program dedicated to changing kids' lives. There is a critical need in Flagler County to secure funds to enable academically capable students, who are at-risk owing to personal family and financial circumstances, to get an opportunity to graduate from high school, pursue a baccalaureate degree, and become productive citizens.

What you may not know is that over 48 % of public school children in Flagler County have a documented need, and are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Many of these children are scholastically at-risk. Through our "Take Stock in Children" program, the Flagler County Education Foundation in partnership with the State of Florida has made a concerted effort to ensure that some of these deserving low-income students have a chance to attend college. imageCurrently, there are 42 students enrolled in our program, but due to funding limitations, there is always a wait list for students.

How does the program work?

Individuals, business and professional organizations, and education foundations sponsor a child's scholarship with a donation. That donation is, in turn, will be matched by Florida Prepaid Foundation and matriculated. Upon graduation from high school, each student who has fulfilled the contract requirements is awarded a college scholarship.

To qualify for consideration a child must:

  • Be selected in 7th grade (exceptions do apply) by the Flagler County Education Foundation.
  • Sign a contract to stay drug & crime free.
  • Maintain a stipulated grade point average (currently 2.0.)
  • Demonstrate good behavior in school.
  • Have a documented financial need upon entering program.
  • Have a strong determination to succeed.
