Teresa Rizzo, a State Regional Literacy Director for the Florida Department of Education since last year and a teacher in the Flagler County school district for over a decade, was named this week director of the Flagler Education Foundation, the non-profit support arm of the school district.

JoAnn Germano and Flagler Palm Coast senior Ashley Brush sat together, holding hands at a conference table in the office of the Flagler County Education Foundation.

Germano has been Brush’s mentor for the past four years in the Take Stock in Children program. Their bond has grown stronger than that of a typical mentor-mentee relationship. Germano has been like a mom to Brush.

The Flagler County Education Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce Teresa Rizzo as the new Executive Director. The Flagler County Education Foundation is a Direct-Support Organization for Flagler County Schools dedicated to generating financial support and enhancing programs that benefit students, families, and teachers.

Converting the Flagler County Senior Scholarship Ceremony from an assembly to a "Drive and Surprise" event two years ago was a matter of necessity.

Perhaps the biggest surprise was how successful the new approach would become. Instead of high school seniors receiving their awards on stage, the scholarship sponsors, teachers and administrators drove to the recipients' homes to personally present them with their scholarships and yard signs announcing their achievements.
